Kid One bridges transportation gap that prevents access to health care

“If you tell us you have a barrier to transportation to health care, we’ll transport you. And barriers to transportation to health care services are different across the state for different people. Sometimes there are people in rural Alabama that don’t have the gas to get to maybe Birmingham or Montgomery or Huntsville for special care. Maybe they don’t have a car that’s roadworthy, a car that’s temporarily out of service … It could be a family that only has one vehicle and someone’s going to work and earning a living and keeping insurance for the family and then there’s a chronically sick child at home …”

Matt Holdbrooks, president and CEO of Kid One Transport, joins Alabama anchor Lane Hagan to talk about the transportation challenges faced by families in rural areas of Alabama and Kid One’s efforts to ensure expectant mothers and children can access needed medical care.
